Oiva, juhlavuoden varsa - Oiva, the foal of the jubilee year

Dahlströmin tallille syntyi pitkän odotuksen jälkeen kuvankaunis suomenhevosvarsa Oiva.
Oiva syntyi juhlalliseen aikaan, suomenhevosen 110-juhlavuotena.

After a long wait in Dahlström's stable, a picture-like Finnish horse, Oiva, was born. Oiva was born at a solemn time, the 110th anniversary of the Finnish horse.

Arvostan suomenhevosta paljon. On ainutlaatuista että meillä Suomessa on oma kansallinen hevosrotu, jota on tarkasti ja määrätietoisesti jalostettu 110 vuotta. Monipuolisuudessaan ja luonteeltaan suomenhevonen on hyvin pitkälti meidän suomalaisten kaltainen. Meillä on yhteinen historia. Se on hienoa.

I appreciate the Finnish horse a lot. It is unique that we have a national horse race in Finland that has been carefully and decisively refined for 110 years. In its versatility and the Finnish horse's character, it is very much like our Finns. We have a common history. That's great.

Se että Oiva-varsa eli viralliselta nimeltään Onskeri syntyi Suomen ja suomenhevosen juhlavuonna oli sykähdyttävää. Oiva on ensimmäinen meille syntynyt suomenhevonen. Tilallemme, Jokikumpuun on varmuudella syntynyt suomenhevosvarsoja aiemmin, kymmeniä vuosia sitten. Nyt pitkä varsaton aika päättyi. 

The fact that this foal Oiva, Onskeri by his official name, was born in the jubilee year of both Finland and Finnish horse was thrilling. Oiva is the first Finnish horse born to us. It is sure, that Finnish horses have been born to our farm, Jokikumpu in the past, tens of years ago. Now, the long foal-empty period ended.

Oiva's mother is Rinkeli and father Virijori. How was the father selected?

Rinkeli eli oikealta nimeltään Onskatar on osoittautunut lempeäksi ja huolehtivaksi äidiksi. Orivalinta viime vuoden keväänä oli vaikeaa. Isäehdokkaan piti tietysti edustaa ravihevosten parhaimmistoa. Myös isä Virijorin hieno luonne vaikutti valintaan.

Rinkeli, Onskatar by her real name, has proved to be a gentle and caring mother. It was difficult to make choices between the stallions in spring last year. Of course, the nominee had to represent the best of racing horses. Even father Virijori's fine character influenced the selection.

Oikeastaan valintaan vaikutti niiin moni asia että koko blogi menisi siihen 😂😂. Muun muassa Virijorin isä Turo, jo edesmennyt, on minun lempiorini ja oli valtava siitosjätti. Turon pojat on kilttejä, nopeita ja hyväravisia sekä toisinaan myös hieman laiskoja. Virijori on yksi Turon parhaista pojista. Rinkeli on sen verran tiukka tamma, että haluttiin vähän pehmentää varsan luonnetta. Saa nähdä miten käy.

Actually, the choice was influenced by so many things that the entire blog would go to it 😂😂. Among other things, Virijori's father Turo, already dead, is my favorite and was a huge breeder. The sons of Turo are nice, quick and trot well, and are occasionally a little lazy. Virijori is one of Turo's best sons. Rinkeli is a pretty tight mare and we wanted to soften the foal's nature a bit. Let's see how it goes.

Rinkeli odotti varsaa peräti 359 vuorokautta. Miltä loppuaika tuntui?
Rinkeli expected the foal for as much as 359 days. How did the end time feel?

359 vuorokautta on pitkä aika. Koko toukokuu odotettiin ja oltiin varsomiseen varauduttu. Oiva tuli kun oli valmis tulemaan. Mutta pitkältä ne viimeiset pari viikkoa tuntuivat. Lopputulos oli täydellinen, siltä se syntymän hetkellä ainakin tuntui. Kauniimpaa varsaa ei olisi voitu saada.

359 days is a long time. All May we waited and were prepared for foaling. Oiva came when he was ready to come. But must admit that the last couple of weeks felt long. The end result was perfect, at least at the time of birth. A more beautiful foal we could not have got.

Oivan lempinimeksi valikoitui Oiva, koska varsa oli vaan niin oiva tyyppi 😍😀 kerta kaikkisesti. Kaikkein hauskinta on, kun koko perhe pääsee osallistumaan Oivan hoitoon. Lapset on varsasta innoissaan ja Oiva lapsista 😁🐴. Porukassa katsottiin lasten kanssa valvontakamerasta, kun Oiva syntyi. Se jäi varmasti kaikkien mieleen pitkän odotuksen päätteeksi. 

The nickname Oiva (Fine) was chosen, because the foal was just simply such a fine guy 😍😀. The most enjoyable thing is when the whole family can participate in the treatment of Oiva. The kids are excited about Oiva and Oiva about children 😁🐴. Together with children we watched at the monitor of the security camera when Oiva was born. It for sure staid in everybody's mind after a long wait.

Suomenhevosen juhlavuotena olisi kiva kuulla Kukkarokankaan tilalta tarina Huttusen Erkiltä ja Marjolta. Kukkarokankaalla on pitkät perinteet suomenhevoskasvatuksessa.

As it is the jubilee year of the Finnish horse, it would be nice to hear a story from the farm Kukkarokangas, i.e. from Erkki and Marjo Huttunen. Kukkarokangas has long traditions in Finnish horse breeding.
