Joulukuun vierailijoina blogissa ovat Heli ja Helin 11-vuotias Tuisku-koira.

On December we have visitors in the blog: Heli and Heli's 11-year-old dog Tuisku.

Ketä eläinperheeseenne kuuluu, Heli?
Of whom does you animal family consist of, Heli?

Meillä on kaksi mittelspitz-rotuista tyttökoiraa, Tuisku noin 11 v ja Taika noin 3 v. Lisäksi on kaksi risteytysmarsua, pojat Pyry 4 v ja Onni 3 v. Ja kolme akaattikotiloa, joista yksi on albiino eli ”white jade”. Albiino on nimeltään Ymmi ja ne tavalliset aksut ovat Dille ja Jönsse. Joulun jälkeen tuli kaksi white jaden poikasta lisää. ;)

There are two Mittelspitz girl dogs, Tuisku about 11 years and Taika about 3 years. In addition, there are two crossbred guinea pigs, Pyry 4 years and Onni 3 years. And three agate seashells, one of which is an albino, that is "white jade". Albino is called Ymmi and the ordinary seashells are Dille and Jönsse. After Christmas we had two more baby jades. ;)

Miten tienne Tuiskun kanssa kohtasivat?
How did your roads cross with Tuisku?

Ennen Tuiskua minulla oli sekarotuinen Turre ja pomeranian Tipsu. Turre sairastui vakavasti ja jouduimme päästämään sen sateenkaarisillalle Turren ollessa 14,5-vuotias.

Before Tuisku I had a mixed breed Turre and Pomeranian Tipsu. Turre became seriously ill and we had to let him go on the rainbow bridge when Turre was 14.5 years old.
 
Tipsulle piti saada uusi koirakaveri, joten aloin miettimään tulevan koiran rotua ja päädyin mittelspitziin. Kuuluuhan pomeranian ja mittelspitz sentään samaan saksanpystykorvien ”perheeseen”.

We had to find a new dog friend for Tipsu, so I began to think about the future dog race and I ended up with Mittelspitz. After all, Pomeranian and Mittelspitz belong to the same  German Spitz 'family'.

Hämeenlinnassa kävin katsomassa yhtä mittelipentuetta kun pennut olivat kolmen viikon ikäisiä. Silloin näin Tuiskun ensimmäisen kerran, mutta en vielä päättänyt kenet pennuista otan itselleni.

I went to Hämeenlinna to have a look at a Mittel kindle when the puppies were three weeks old. Then I saw Tuisku for the first time, but didn't yet decide which of the puppies I take for myself.

Pentujen ollessa 5-viikkoisia kävin katsomassa niitä uudestaan ja silloin piti tehdä päätös koska pennuille olisi ollut paljon ottajia. Kasvattaja antoi minun rauhassa miettiä ja istuinkin pentujen ja emän kanssa pentuaitauksessa.

Puppies were 5 weeks old when I went to see them again and then had to make a decision because there would have been a lot of takers for the puppies. The breeder gave me peace and quiet to think about and I sat in with the puppies and the dam in the puppy paddock.

Minulla oli kaksi suosikkipentua, toinen oli pentueen pienin ja todella sievä, toinen pentueen suurin, rauhallinen ja hieman ujo. Se tarkkaili tilanteita kauempaa ennen kuin alkoi leikkiin mukaan. Otin sen syliini ja se katsoi minua niillä viattomilla ruskeilla silmillään ujosti syrjäsilmällä. Siinä vaiheessa mie tiesin, että se on siinä, miun Tuisku. :)

I had two favorite puppies, the other was the smallest of the litter, and really pretty, the other was largest, quiet and a little shy. It monitored the situations from a distance before she started to play with. I took her in my arms and she looked at me with those innocent brown eyes shyly with remote eyes. At that point, I knew that's it, my Tuisku. :)

Pentujen ollessa 7-viikkoisia kävimme hakemassa Tuiskun kotiin. Jo samana iltana paljastui, että ei se ihan niin rauhallinen pentu ollutkaan ja Tipsu-pommilla meinasi mennä hermot. :D

Puppies were 7 weeks old when we went to pick up Tuisku. That same evening it was revealed that she is not quite so calm puppy after all and the other dog Tipsu was about to lose her nerves. :D 

Mitä Tuisku on sinulle opettanut?
What has Tuisku tought to you? 

Tuisku, niin kuin koirat ylipäänsä, opettavat ihmisille mitä tarkoittaa pyyteetön rakkaus, hetkessä eläminen ja asioiden ottaminen sellaisena kuin ne ovat. Tuisku on ollut vanhemmalla iällä parissa isossa leikkauksessa: kohdunpoisto vakavan kohtutulehduksen takia ja polven eturistisiteen korjausleikkaus kun Tuiskun eturistiside meni poikki. Molemmilla kerroilla pelkäsin menettäväni Tuiskun leikkauspöydälle, mutta niin se vaan taisteli. Löytyisipä itseltäni yhtä paljon sisua kuin Tuiskulta.

Tuisku, as dogs in general, teach people what means altruistic love, living in the moment and taking things merely as they are. Tuisku has in her older days experienced a couple of big surgerys: hysterectomy because of severe metritis and knee ligament repair surgery. Both times I was afraid of losing Tuisku on the operating table, but then she just battled. I wish I had as much guts as Tuisku.

Ja Tuisku on tyytyväinen elämän pieniin asioihin kuten auton kyytiin pääseminen, sängyssä nukkuminen, Taikan kanssa leikkiminen jne. Kun aina itsekin muistaisi mikä elämässä lopulta on tärkeintä, ne arjen pienet asiat.

And Tuisku is satisfied with the small things of life, such as having a ride in the car, sleeping in bed, playing with Taika etc. We should always remember what really is important in life, they are the small things of everyday life. 

Onko jotain, jonka tekisit nyt jälkikäteen ajatellen toisin?
Is there something you would do differently, now in retrospect thinking? 

Tuiskun ollessa nuori vein sen uutena vuotena puistoon katsomaan ilotulituksia, että se tottuisi niihin. Kävikin päinvastoin ja siitä lähtien Tuisku on ollut paukkuarka. :( Omaa tyhmyyttäni. Sen jälkeen olenkin viettänyt kaikki uudet vuodet koirieni kanssa kotona kaihtimet ikkunoissa ja telkkarissa äänet kovalla.

When Tuisku was young I took her in the new year's eve to the park to watch the fireworks so that she would get used to it. Opposite was the case, and since then Tuisku has been scared of shots. :( My mistake. Since then, I have spent all the new years with my dogs at home with blinds on windows and tv sounds loud.

Helin vinkit koirien hyvään vointiin?
Heli's tips for dogs' good health? 

Terveellinen ruoka, puhdas vesi ja ulkoilu ovat koiralle tärkeitä. Samoin eläinlääkärissä käynnit silloin kun sitä tarvitaan. Mutta omasta mielestäni yksi tärkeä nuiden lisäksi on läheisyys silloin kun koira sitä tarvitsee. Meillä ainakin koirat osaavat pyytää kun kaipaavat hellyyttä, rapsutuksia tai sylissä olemista. Joidenkin mielestä se on merkki siitä, että koira yrittää ottaa lauman johtajan paikan. Itse en näe asiaa niin, miksei koirakin voi kärsiä ihan vaan halipulasta?

Healthy food, clean water and outdoor activities are important for dogs. Similarly, visits to the vet when it's needed. But in my opinion, another important thing in addition to those is the proximity when the dog feels like it. At least our dogs know how to ask when craving for affection, cuddles or lap being. Some think it is a sign that the dog is trying to take the herd leader position. In fact, I do not see it so, why can not the dog suffer just from lack of hugs?

Onko teillä ollut Tuiskun kanssa mieleen jääneitä tapahtumia?
Have you had memorable events with Tuisku? 

Tuisku on kova tyttö karkailemaan. Aina jos ulko-ovi jää rakoselleen niin sitten sitä mennään! Kerran kävi niin, että avopuolisoni isä oli jättänyt ulko-oven auki ja Tuisku ampaisi täyttä juoksua pihalle jatkaen siitä ajotielle.

Tuisku is a tough girl when escaping is concerned. Always if the front door is left a bit open there we go! Once it so happened that my partner's father had left the front door open and Tuisku shot out to the yard continuing in the driveway.

”Appiukko” oli hypännyt autoonsa ja lähtenyt koiran perään. Jonkun matkan päästä koira oli löytynyt istumasta linja-autopysäkiltä. Ei ole vielä tähän päivään mennessä selvinnyt, että mihin se oli matkalla. :)

My "father-in-law" had jumped into his car and left after the dog. From some distance he found the dog sitting at a bus stop. Fo far we have not fount out where she was determined to go. :)

Toinen karkureissu oli oma vikani kun epähuomiossa jätin ulko-oven hetkeksi auki. Siellä sitten juostiin kotikadullamme peräkanaa, ensin Tuisku, sitten minä (talvipakkasella ilman takkia, kengät kerkesin sentään laittaa jalkoihini) ja minun perässä juoksi Tipsu-pomeranian joka seurasi minua aina joka paikkaan. Mahdettiin olla aikamoinen näky. :D No lopulta sain houkuteltua Tuiskun luokseni taskusta löytyneen nenäliinani ansiosta, jota se luuli syötäväksi.

Another excape was my fault when I left the front door open for a while. There we ran at our home street in single queue, first Tuisku, then I (in cold winter without a coat, shoes, after all I had time to put on my feet) and behind me ran Tipsu the Pomeranian who always followed me everywhere. It must have been quite a sight to see. : D Well, I finally got Tuisku's attraction to me thanks to a handkerchief found in my pocket which she thought was something to eat.

Kolmas ja tähän asti viimeisin karkureissu tapahtui noin kolme vuotta sitten. Taas oma vikani, jätin ulko-oven epähuomiossa hetkeksi auki. Ja siellä se taas meni ajotietä kohti. Onneksi sain Tuiskun sillä kertaa nopeasti kiinni, mutta säikähdin niin pahan päiväisesti, että sain sydämeeni rytmihäiriön ja jouduin päiväksi makaamaan päivystykseen. :D

The third and so far last excape happened about three years ago. Again, my fault, I left the front door open for a while inadvertently. And there she went again toward the driveway. Fortunately, at that time I captured Tuisku quickly, but got scared so bad that I received in my heart rhythm disorder, and that day I had to lie down on the emergency department. :D 

Tuiskun parhaimmat taidot tai ominaisuudet?
Tuisku's best skills and qualities? 

Tuisku on maailman paras lohduttaja kun olen surullinen. Kun itken, se tulee nuolemaan kasvojani eikä anna periksi vaikka työntäisin sen kauemmaksi. Se tulee takaisin, kiipeää vaikka päälleni jos muu ei auta, mutta se nuolee kasvojani niin pitkään kunnes alan nauramaan, sitä ennen se ei lopeta.

Tuisku is the world's best comforter when I'm sad. When I cry, it's going to lick my face and not give up even if I pushed her farther. She comes back, climbs up on me if nothing else helps, but she licks my face for so long until I begin to laugh, before that, she does not stop.

Kun se on saanut minut nauramaan se heiluttaa häntäänsä ja saattaa jopa hymyillä. Hymyily on toinen Tuiskun erityistaito. Se siis ikään kuin irvistää, mutta paljon pehmeämmin ja hyvin nopeasti. Niin nopeasti, että en ole ikinä onnistunut ottamaan valokuvaa Tuiskun hymystä. :D

Once she has made me laugh, she wags her tail and may even smile. Smiling is Tuisku's another special skill. Thus, she makes like a grimace, but much more smoothly and quickly. So fast that I have never managed to take a photo of Tuisku's smile. :D

Esan matkassa 2/2 / Along with Esa 2/2

Vapiskaa vastustajat (ja omistajat) sillä pari kuukautta sitten ostettu Esa the hevonen on ensimmäisessä startissaan Suomessa.

Opponents (and owners), now tremble because Esa the horse, bought just a couple of months ago is having his first race in Finland.

Ajatuskupla/minä: Jännittää ihan sikana. Mutta karaisen itseni valmiiksi maailman valloitukseen. Ei toki ole pakko voittaa. Totosijakin olisi ihan kunniakas. En pääse paikalle, mutta katson telkkarista.Nyt se alkaa.

Thought bubble/me: Nervous like hell. But I harden myself ready to conquer the world. Of course it is not obligatory to win. Rankings 2-3 would be quite glorious, too. I can't go on the spot, but I follow the race at TV. Now it starts.

Ajatuskupla/Esa: Jännittää ihan sikana. Ai täällä Suomessakin on raveja. Päässä heiluu. Nyt  heilun kokonaan. Jalat tuntuvat siltä kuin niissä olisi painavat saappaat. Hitto kun hiekka rapisee naamaan. Sattuu. 

Thought bubble/Esa: Nervous like hell. I see, they have races here in Finland, too. It is swinging inside my head. Now the whole of me is swinging. The legs feel as if they had heavy boots on. Damn the sand rustles in the face. Hurts.

Minä: Mihin Esa hävisi ruudulta??? 

Me: Where did Esa disappear from the screen??? 


Esa: Jättäydyn vähän jälkeen. Purkoot nuo toiset hiekkaa. Yksi tulee näköjään vielä minun jälkeeni. Yritän olla roiskimatta hänen silmilleen.

Esa: I am opting shortly after the others. Let them bite the sand. One is apparently still after me. I try not to splash sand on his eyes.

Seuraava yritys kahden viikon kuluttua. Esalla uusi varustus päässä suojaamassa roiskuvalta hiekalta.

The next attempt in two weeks. Esa has now new facilities on his head to protect from splashing sand.

Minä: Jännittää ihan sikana. Ykköslähtöpaikka auton takaa, etulyöntiasema. Voi kiltti Esa, yritä nyt edes. Ei ole pakko menestyä heti, mutta näytä edes että toivoa on...

Me: Nervous like hell. Esa starts as number one after the car, that ensures a quicker start compared with the others. Oh, please Esa, have the effort to at least try. It is not compulsory to succeed immediately, but even appear that there is hope ...

Esa: Jännittää ihan sikana. Kammottava lähtöauton rottelo ihan nenän edessä. Paniikki. Laukkaan, se auttaa kun päässä kiristää.

Esa: Nervous like hell. Creepy shack starting car just in front of my nose. Panic. I gallop, it helps when inside of my head feels tightened.

Minä: Mihin Esa hävisi ruudulta????

Me: Where did Esa disappear from the screen????

Esa: Hitsi kun laukka helpotti. Aivot kirkastuivat. Auto on näköjään hävinnyt. Ja toiset hevoset. Tykkään kavereista, ravaan ne kiinni.

Esa: Gosh the gallop helped. My brain feels clear now. The car is apparently lost. And the other horses, too. I like friends, I'm gonna catch them up.

Minä: Oho, Esan turpa ilmestyi ruudun oikeaan reunaan. Sitä ei hylättykään pitkästä laukasta!!!! Voi ei, nyt joku laukkaa Esan edessä. Pakko jarruttaa.

Me: Oh, Esa's nose appeared at the right edge of the screen. He was not abandoned because of a long gallop, after all!!!! Oh no, now is someone galloping in front of Esa. Forced to slow down.

Esa: Täällä sitä taas ollaan peräjoukoissa. Joku kuuma virtaa suonissa, lihaksia polttaa, mutta lisään vauhtia. Jätkät, oottakaa hei...

Esa: Here we go again at the back forces. Something hot is flowing in the veins, muscles burn, but I run faster. Guys, hey ... waite for me!

1,5 kuukauden kuluttua kilpailu kotiradalla. Välissä 3 kisaa. Lähtölaukat lyhenevät ja muuttuvat vähältä piti -tilanteiksi. Esa alkaa mahtua tv-ruutuun muiden kanssa.

After 1.5 months competition on home track. Before that three races. Gallops at start shortened and changed to almost gallops. Esa begins to fit to the TV screen with the others.

Lopulta lähtöjännitys väheni ja Esa oppi näyttämään kieltä lähtöautolle.
Eventually, the excitement at start decreased and Esa learned to show his tongue to the starting car.

Minä: Kerrankin pääsen paikalle. Tänne ei varmaan saa tuoda omaa sampanjapulloa??? Salakuljetan kuitenkin, just in case.

Me: For once I can now get to the scene. It is certainly not allowed to bring your own champagne bottle here, is it??? I smuggle, however, just in case.

Esa: Onkohan tää kotiradan hiitti vai oikea kilpailu? No juostaan nyt. Yritän matkia kuskia ja hoitajaa. Niillä virtaa suonissa jäätä. Olen ihan cool.

Esa: I wonder if this is a home track heat or real race? Well let's run anyway. I'm trying to imitate my driver and assistant. Ice flows in their veins. I'm pretty cool, too.

Minä: Jännittää ihan sikana. Onneksi on paljon ystäviä ympärillä. Go Esa!

Me: Nervous like hell. Fortunately, here are lots of friends around. Go Esa!

Esa: Olen vieläkin cool. Paetkoon lähtöauto minua. Nyt nautin vauhdista. 

Esa: I'm still cool. Let the starting car flee for me, this time. Now I enjoy the speed.

Minä: Vieruskaveri laukkaa. Esa, älä jarruta!!!

Me: Now the horse next to Esa is galloping. Esa, do not brake !!!

Esa: Ai, luulin ettei tarvitse enää juosta kun vieruskaveri hiljensi. Ahaa! Nyt tajuan. Täällähän on tarkoitus mennä toisista ohi. Veri kohisee kuumana suonissa. Nyt lasken kaikki voimani irti. Aaahhh...

Esa: Oh, I thought there's no longer need to run because the next guy slowed down. Aha! Now I get it. It is meaning to race past the others. The blood is rushing hot in the vessels. Now I release all my strength. Aaahhh ...

Tärkeintä ei ole voitto vaan ylivoimainen voitto.
The most important thing is not winning but an overwhelming victory.

Minä: Glunk glunk sampanjaa salakuljetetusta pullosta. Tiedän ainakin yhden asian: Esan matkassa ei kenelläkään meistä ole ollut tylsää. 

Me: Glunk glunk champange from a smuggled bottle. I know at least one thing: Along with Esa none of us has been bored.

Esan matkassa 1/2 / Along with Esa 1/2

Sain olisiko minusta hevosenomistajaksi -testissä 11 pistettä. Suunta oli selvä: kimppahevosta kohti.

I got 11 points in the test could I be a horse owner. The direction was clear: a commonly owned horse for our family.

Yllätyksenä tuli, ettei myytäviä kilpailuikäisiä hevosia ole Suomessa ihan joka oksalla. Eli tallissa.

It was kind of a surprise that there were so few horses for sale in Finland. That is, horses aged ready to race. 

Tiimimme prot käyttivät verkostojaan. Etelä-Ruotsista löytyi useampikin potentiaalinen ravuri. Lopulta he päätyivät 4-vuotiaaseen ruunaan nimeltään Esa.

The pros in our Team were using their networks. In South Sweden they found more than one potential trotter. Finally, they ended up choosing a 4-year-old gelding named Esa.

Esalla on hieno oikea nimi, mutta vain harva osaa kirjoittaa sen. Ja kukaan ei osaa lausua. Paitsi ystäväni Tina, joka yritti opettaa minuakin. Nimessä oli kuitenkin liian monta ksz:ää ja dzs:ää. Tina päätyi suosittelemaan: sano Esa. Tai sano että Esukka.

Esa has a posh real name, but only a few can write it. And no one can pronounce. Except my friend Tina, who tried to teach me, too. However, the name had too many ksz's and dzs's added. Tina ended up recommending: say Esa. Or say Esukka.

Ja niin koitti päivä kun Esukka tuli Suomeen. Soitettiin hakijoille: miltä se näyttää? "Hevoselta näyttää."

And then came the day when Esukka came to Finland. We called the pros in the transportation car on its way: how does he look like? "Looks like a horse."

Kun Esa peruutti kuljetuskopista tallin pihalle ensimmäinen ajatukseni oli, että onpa iso. Ja kaunis. Etelämpää tulleena Esalla oli sileä lyhyt karva ja trimmatut korvat. Samaan aikaan suomalaisilla hevosilla oli paksu karvainen talvipalttoo. Porukalla tuumattiin, että on se niin nätti. Että jos ei ravi maistu niin viedään match showhun :)

When Esa backed up from the car to the stable yard my first thought was o' dear, he is tall. And beautiful. Having come from south Esa had a smooth short coat and ears trimmed. At the same time, Finnish horses had a thick hairy winter coat. All the Team thought he is so pretty. So if he does not like trotting let's bring him to a match show :)

Kauhea kulttuurishokkihan siitä sitten Esalle seurasi. Hän oli pahasti läheisriippuvainen ja nyt laumastaan erotettu. Lisäksi Esa kärsi kovasta jännittämisestä.

Läheisriippuvaisuus meni alussa niin pitkälle, että harjatessakin tallikäytävällä piti olla toinen hevonen kaverina. Kun Esan hermoja alkoi kiristää sen näki siitä, että pää nousi korkeuksiin. Joskus tuntui, että kohta mennään katosta läpi.

At the beginning addiction to close friends went so far that he needed another horse with him at the stable hallway when brushing. After Esa's nerves began to tighten his head rose to the heights. Sometimes it seemed that soon he goes through the roof.

Ensimmäisissä hiitti- eli harjoitusraveissa kotiradalla ressukan hermot kiristyivät niin paljon, että meikäläistä vierestäkatsojaa hirvitti. Nyt olivat omat hermoni rullalla. En uskaltanut mennä lähellekään. Ihailin miten ajaja ja hoitaja pysyivät tyyninä. Esa hot - ohjastaja cool.

At the first heat or workout races at the home track poor thing's nerves tightened so much that I hardly dared look at him. Now, my nerves were rolled up. I did not dare go anywhere near. I marveled at how the driver and attendant remained calm. Esa hot - driver cool.

Kohta mennään katosta läpi. Mutta Ukkikin oli cool.
Soon we will go through the roof. But Grandpa was cool, too.

Do not allow yourself be cheated by the old term "let the horse worry because it has a bigger head." It is certainly not true !!!!
