Aiemmassa blogissa Reetta Bagge kertoi suurisieluisesta saksanmetsästysterrieristä Nikistä.

Reetta haastoi Heidi Falckin kertomaan omasta eläinperheestään.

Laumaamme kuuluvat kaksi kissaa, siskokset Misu ja Namu kohta 3 v., islanninhevoset Hnokki 20 v ja Bruni 17 v sekä tsekinpaimenkoiranpentu Nova 5 kk.

Our herd includes two cats, sisters Misu and Namu 3 years old, Icelandic Horses Hnokki 20 years and Bruni 17 years old, and Czech Shepherd puppy Nova 5 months.

Kaikki eläimet ovat tulleet meille hieman yllättäin, sattumien kautta. Ystäväni oli vierailulla v. 2014 ja lähti puheeksi, että voisimme ottaa lapsien iloksi kissan. Hänellä puolestaan oli tiedossa ystävä, jolla oli juuri luovutusiässä olevat siskokset. Hän ei tahtonut erottaa siskoksia toisistaan, joten yhden puhelun jälkeen kissoja tulikin kaksi. Pieniä ja pitkäkarvaisia söpöliinejä, juuri sellaisia kuin halusinkin. Siitä alkoi pentuajan unettomat yöt, kun kisut juoksivat öisin pitkin seiniä, toisiaan jahdaten.

All the animals have come to us a bit unexpectedly, by chance. My friend was visiting in 2014 and went on to say that we could take a cat for the pleasure of children. She was in turn aware of a friend who had kittens just in the age of extradition. She did not want to separate the sisters, so after one call we had in fact two cats. Small and long-haired cute kittens, just what I wanted. There started the sleepless nights with the kittens when they ran around the walls at night, chasing each other.

Seuraavana vuonna issikkatalli, jossa kävimme ratsastamassa, ilmoitti lopettavansa. "Suruaikana" tallinomistajille selvisi, että asumme pienellä maatilalla ja he herättivät henkiin hullun ajatuksen omista hevosista. Vielä kun sain isännänkin innostumaan ajatuksesta, niin kohta pihassamme rouskutteli kaksi issikkaruunaa. Islannissa syntyneitä varmajalkaisia ja rauhallisia heppapoikia molemmat, toinen mieheni ja toinen minun. Jännä juttu miten paljon pojat vastaavat luonteeltaan omistajiaan.

The following year, the Icelandic Horse stable, where we went riding, announced that it would end. In the "sorrow time" the stable owners realized that we lived on a small farm and they aroused the mad idea of own horses. And then when I got my husband to become enthusiastic about the idea, so soon there were two Icelandic geldings crunching in the yard. Both of them where steady footed and calm horse boys born in Iceland, one of them my husband's and the other mine. It is funny how the boys respond by their nature to their owners.

Ja sitten meidän iso pieni Nova. Novan käytöksessä korostuu vielä pennulle ominaiset piirteet, kuten pureminen ja hyperaktiivisuus. Rotumääritelmän mukaiset luonteen piirteet kuvaavat hyvin tytteliä. Hän on mm. erittäin aktiivinen, peloton, nopea oppimaan ja sosiaalinen lapsirakas, erinomaisella hajuaistilla varustettuna. Aivan ihana pakkaus, joka haluaa olla kaikessa touhussa mukana, menit sitten vessaan, saunaan tai pihatöihin, niin karvainen kaveri on varmasti vierellä nakottamassa.

And then our big little Nova. Nova's behavior still emphasizes the peculiar features of the puppy, such as biting and hyperactivity. The nature features of the breed definition describe the girl well. She is, among other things, very active, fearless, quick to learn and social child lover with a great sense of smell. Just a pretty pack, who wants to be involved in everything, even if you go to the bathroom, sauna or yard, so a hairy guy is sure to be on your side.

Sopivaa koirarotua oli etsitty jokunen vuosi ja alkuvuodesta aktivoiduin rodun metsästyksessä tosissaan, jolloin törmäsin ensimmäistä kertaa rotuun. Heti tuntui siltä, että tämä on juuri sitä mitä etsin. Rotu on melko harvinainen vielä Suomessa, joten lisää rodusta lähdin kyselemään lähiseudulla asuvalta kasvattajalta, jonka kennelissä oli syntynyt v. 2013 ensimmäinen virallisesti rekisteröity Tsekinpaimenkoirapentue.

A suitable dog breed was searched for a few years and early this year I activated seriously in hunting the breed, and then I first found this breed. It just seemed like this was exactly what I was looking for. The breed is still uncommon in Finland, so I started to inquire about the breed from a neighboring breeder in who's kennel the first officially registered Czech Sheepdog kindle was born in 2013.

Vierailulla vahvistui tunne, että tämä se rotu on. Selvisi myös, että rodun harvinaisuudesta ja kasvavasta suosiosta johtuen pentua saattaa joutua odottamaan kolmekin vuotta. Liian pitkä odotusaika minulle...

The visit strengthened the feeling that this race is it. It also became clear that due to the rarity and growing popularity of the breed, the puppy may have to be waited for even three years. Too long waiting time for me ...

Kuin kohtalon oikusta Oulussa olikin yksi sijoitusnarttu vapaana, joka haluttiin Savonlinnan seudulle. Kuukausi tästä vierailusta meidän rakas Novamme kotiutui. Koira isolla sydämellä, nopeilla jaloilla ja päässäkin muuta kuin kaksi hernettä.

As of caprice of fate, there was in Oulu one free bitch to be placed rather to the Savonlinna region. Month after this visit our beloved Nova came home. Dog with big heart, fast legs and with more than two peas in her head.

How do animals interact, do they have territories?

Koiramme tulee toimeen kaikkien kanssa, mutta muut otukset ei koiran kanssa :)

Our dog gets along with everyone but other creatures don't get along with the dog :)

Oletin, että nuoren pirtsakat kissamme ottavat koiranpennun avosylin vastaan, mutta toisin kävi. Yli-innokas pentu ajoi kissat evakkoon yläkertaan, jossa ovat asustaneet viimeiset kuukaudet. Jos koira näkee kissat ulkona, niin ei voi vastustaa "leikkiä" ja ajaa kissoja takaa täydellä riemulla.

I assumed that the young and lively kittens welcomed the puppy with open arms, but they did not. The over-keen puppy drove the cats to evacuate themselves upstairs where they have settled for the last few months. If the dog sees the cats outdoors, then she can not resist "to play" and run after cats with full joy. 

Kissat ovat onneksi fiksuja ja yleensä harhauttavat koiran kiertäen lenkin ja palaavat pihaan, puuhun nauramaan. Tosin Nova erinomaisen hajuaistinsa avulla jäljittää kyllä kissojen hajujäljen hyvinkin nopeasti. Tarkoitus oli opettaa koira pysymään poissa hevosaitauksesta, mutta toisin kävi. Eihän kukaan pentu voi vastustaa muhevaa ja hyvän makuista hevosenlantaa.

Cats are fortunate to be smart and usually mislead the dog circulating around and returning to the yard, laughing at the tree. However, with Nova's excellent smell, it is possible to track the cats' smells very quickly. The purpose was to teach the dog to stay out of the horses' hedged yard, but the opposite was true. No one puppy can resist a juicy and tasty horse manure.

Jos Nova käyttäytyy asiallisesti, eivät hevoset välitä hänestä. Paimenkoiran vietti nousee kyllä esiin ajoittain, jolloin pitää vähän hepoja paimentaa ja käydä vuohiskarvoista näykkimässä, elleivät meinaa paimentajaa totella. Välillä näyttää kyllä hurjalta, kun hevonen piehtaroi ja huitoo vahvoilla jaloillaan ja koiruli yrittää kovasti päästä leikkiin mukaan, potkivia jalkoja väistellen. Nopeista jaloista on kyllä hyötyä siinä leikissä.

If Nova behaves properly, horses do not care about her. The shepherd's instinct rises from time to time and then she just has to shepherd the horses and go nibbling their fetlocks if they do not obey the shepherd. Sometimes looks pretty wild when the horse wallows and shakes with his strong feet and the dog tries hard to get involved with the play, dodging the kicking legs. High-speed legs are useful in that play.

Lapsi ja hevonen - A child and a horse

Kuusivuotias Prinsessamme on jo pitkään toivonut pääsevänsä ratsastamaan.

Our six-year-old Princess has long been hoping to ride.

Minä epäilin, että se on unelmia. Päiväunia, joita ei ole tarkoitettukaan toteutettavaksi. Mistä kuusivuotias, joka ei ole kasvanut hevosten keskellä, keksisi sellaisen ajatuksen?

I suspected it was dreams. Daydreams that are not meant to be implemented. How could a six-year-old who has not grown with horses come up with such an idea?

Mutta Prinsessa oli päättäväinen, omaan kohteliaaseen tapaansa. Joten: suunta Jennyn tallille Kattilamäkeen.

But Princess was determined, in her own courteous way. So: direction to Jenny's stable at Kattilamäki.

I love horses and I think they are calm. And then I like them and I love them. 

Hevoset syö laitumella ruohoa. Ja jos niillä haluaa ratsastaa, ne täytyy houkutella vaikka heinillä, että ne saa kiinni. Sämpylällä ei onnistu. Ne haluavat olla tiiviimmin yhdessä kesällä.

Horses eat grass at the pasture. And if you want to ride, they have to be attracted, for instance with hay, to catch them. The roll does not work. They want to be closer together in the summer. 

Lähtö tuntui mukavalta. Ponin turkki on niin sileä kuin silkki. Tänään satoi, joten ei ollut muuta vaihtoehtoa kuin lainata Mumman sadetakkia. Mumma lähti taluttamaan hevosta kentälle.

The departure felt nice. The pony's coat is as smooth as silk. Today was raining, so there was no choice but to borrow granny's raincoat. Granny went to lead the pony to the riding field.

It's nice to be on the pony's back. The movements of the pony's back muscles feel jiggling, diu diu. The horses are guided by pulling the rein towards the direction you want to go. And you have to pull harder if you want it to stop. The reins must be pulled gently if you don't want him to eat hay.

First of all, when I came out of the riding field, grandpa had collected hay for Jim's pay. Because Jim was hungry. Does he now get accustomed to getting hay after riding?

He is 110 years old.

Ilman häntä Suomen armeija olisi ollut sota-aikaan pulassa. Hän jätti kotinsa ja lähti rintamalle. Siellä hän kuljetti muonaa sotilaille ja toi loukkaantuneet ja kaatuneet pois rintamalta. Hän kävi viemässä aseita sinne, missä niitä tarvittiin.

Without him, the Finnish army would have been in trouble at war time. He left his home and went to the front. There he supplied the soldiers with food and brought the injured and fallen off the front. He brought weapons where they needed them.

Sodan jälkeen hän palasi kotiin nostamaan maan jaloilleen. Hän raivasi uusia peltoja, että nälkäiset saivat ruokaa. Metsästä hän kävi hakemassa lisää elantoa, vihreää kultaa.

Niki - suurisieluinen saksanmetsästysterrieri / German Hunting Terrier with a big soul

Aiemmassa blogissa Satu kertoi huumorintajuisesta koirastaan ja haastoi Reetta Baggen kertomaan omasta Niki-koirastaan.

In a previous blog Satu told about her dog with great sense of humor and challenged Reetta Bagge to tell of her dog Niki.

Reetta, Satu kertoi, että Niki on suurisieluinen saksanmetsästysterrieri. Mitä se käytännössä tarkoittaa?
Reetta, Satu told that Niki is a German Hunting Terrier with a big soul. What does that mean?

Nikin suurisieluisuus tarkoittaa ehkä sitä että Niki on kovin persoonallinen koira, istumatyylistä lähtien.

It probably means that Niki is a very personal dog all way starting from his way to sit.

Nikin normiasento nro 1. Niki's standard position number 1.

Niki rakastaa etenkin omia ihmisiään yli kaiken ja on varsinainen sylikoira ja viihtyy
kainalossa. Toisaalta Niki on myös suuri metsästäjä, jonka suurin vihollinen on naapurin kissa ja joka ei aina oikein tule juttuun muiden koirien kanssa.

Niki especially loves his own people over everything and is a real lap dog and enjoys being in
armpit. On the other hand, Niki is also a great hunter, whose greatest enemy is the neighbor's cat and who does not always get along with other dogs.

Tai Niki ei aina tiedä pelkäisikö vai komentaisiko muita koira, mutta haastajani Satun koiran Liinun kanssa kuviot on selvät. Liinu on nimittäin ainoa koira joka osaa näyttää Nikille kaapin paikan. :)

Or Niki does not always know whether or not to command another dog, but with Satu's dog Liinu, the patterns are clear. Liinu is, in fact, the only dog who can show Niki his place. :)

Siihen nähden että Nikillä on vahva metsästysvietti hän on myös vähän arka ja etenkin ukkonen ja ilotulitukset pelottavat kovasti. Niki siis ei toivo hellekesää johon kuuluu kovat ukkoset. :)

Although Niki has a strong drive for hunting, he is also a bit shy, and especially thunder and fireworks are scared very hard. Niki, therefore, does not want a hot summer with heavy thunderstorms. :)

Niki pääsee monesti maalla juoksemaan metsässä vapaana, mutta sekin on kivaa vain kaverin kanssa.

In the countryside Niki can often go to the forest to play in the woods, but it's fun just with a friend.

Itse olen kova sienestäjä, mutta Niki tylsistyy siihen touhuun, kun siinä jäädään kyykistelemään yhteen kohtaan ja viime aikoina Niki onkin pääsääntöisesti ottanut ns. ritolat metsästä ja löytyy sitten mökin portailta odottamassa. Niki kuitenkin odottaa aina sienestäjän kotiin ja katselee pellon reunaan hievahtamatta niin pitkään että sienestyskaveri palaa takaisin.

I like very much to pick mushrooms, but Niki gets bored with that job because there we stay crouching in one place and, more recently, as a rule Niki is taken by the so-called escape from the forest. He is then found waiting at the cottage stairs. Niki, however, always waits for the mushroom picker home and looks at the edge of the field without moving a bit for so long that the mushroom picking friend returns.

Onko sinun ja Nikin yhteisen matkan varrelta jokin mukava tarina?
Is there a nice story along your common journey?

Mukava tarina tulee mieleen Nikin mummoon liittyen. Niki on myös ns. isovanhemmilleen kovin rakas ja "poika" (kuten mummo häntä kutsuu) onkin säännöllisesti kyläilemässä siellä. 

A nice story comes to mind about Niki's grandma. Niki is very dear also to his so-called grandparents and the "boy" (like grandma calls her) is regularly hanging out there.

Siellä tarjoillaan pojalle savumuikkua, joten mikäs siellä ollessa. Niki pääsee mummon viereen myös yöksi nukkumaan, mikä ei ole kotona sallittua. Kerran Niki nukkui vähän leveämmin, ja koska poika kuulemma nukkui niin sikeästi että mummo ei raaskinut herätellä tai töniä, niin siinähän kävi lopulta niin että mummo tippui lattialle ja taisi lopulta siirtyä sohvalle nukkumaan. :)

Smoked vendace is served for the boy there, so what a place! Niki may also go to bed next to granny for the night, which is not allowed at home. Once Niki slept a bit wider, and because the boy was sleeping so soundly that the grandma did not bother to wake him up or shove, then the situation finally came to the point that grandmother dropped to the floor and finally turned to sleep on the couch. :)

Olisi kiva sanoa, että Niki on opettanut minulle kärsivällisyyttä, mutta en tiedä onko se siitä lisääntynyt vaikka sitä on saanutkin treenata kovasti. :)

It would be nice to say that Niki has taught me patience, but I do not know if it has increased even though I have been working hard. :)

Käytännön tasolla Niki on opettanut, että saunassa on aina kiva olla kaverin kanssa, että pähkinä/karkkikuppia ei kannata jättää pitkäksi aikaa valvomatta sohvapöydälle, että koiran kieli korvassa on joskus ihan ok ja arvostamaan pieniä asioista elämässä, kuten aurinkolänttiä lattialla tai lämmintä kainaloa.

At the practical level, Niki has taught that it is always nice to have a friend in the sauna, that it is not advisable to leave a nut / candy can for a long time without looking at the coffee table, that the dog's tongue in the ear is sometimes okay, and that small things in life can be appreciated, such as sunbath in a small sunny spot on the floor or a warm armpit.

Varenne on jopa maailman parhaana ravihevosena pidetty italialainen ori.

Varenne is an Italian stallion who is considered even the best horse in the world.

Sen ennätys on mailin radalla juostu 09,1.Varennea hoiti suomalainen Iina Rastas, jonka Timo Loikkanen haastoi tähän blogiin kertomaan ajastaan Italiassa.

His record is 09,1 which he ran on a mile track. Varenne was taken care of by Finnish Iina Rastas, whom Timo Loikkanen challenged to this blog to tell about her time in Italy.

Miten sinun ja Varennen polut kohtasivat?
How did the trails encounter with you and Varenne?

Varennen ja minun tieni kohtasivat, kun olin Italiassa töissä. Olin ollut siellä vuoden töissä pitäessäni välivuotta opiskeluista lukion jälkeen. Menin vielä kesäksi samalle tallille, Team Minnucci-Turjalle, aloitettuani kansainvälisen kaupan opinnot. Tuo kesä kestikin sitten lähes neljä vuotta, kun Varenne tuli "passihevosekseni".

Our paths crossed when I was in Italy at work. I had been there for a year when I was having my gap year after finishing the high school. I went to the same stable, Team Minnucci-Turja for another summer after I had started international trade studies. That summer then lasted almost four years when Varenne became my "pass horse".

Oliko Varennen hoitaminen erilaista kuin "normihevosen"?
Was it different to take care of Varenne compared with taking care of a "norm horse"?

Isoin ero Varennen ja normi hevosten hoitamisen välillä oli että mulla oli paljon aikaa Varennelle, koska käytännössä olimme puolet vuodesta maailmalla, pois Rooman lähellä sijainneesta kotitallista, jolloin Varenne oli yleensä ainoa hoidokkini.

The biggest difference between taking care of Varenne and of a norm horse was that I had a lot of time for Varenne because in practice we were half of the time away from home i.e. the stable in Rome. So Varenne was usually the only horse I took care of.

Varenne itsessään oli tosi kiltti oriksi ja kaikin puolin helppo ja mukava hevonen, joten hoitajan työ sinänsä oli helppoa, omistautumista ja sitoutumista se toki vaati. Varenne oli Italiassa myös iso julkkis, joten yleisöä ja toimittajia kävi tallilla lähes päivittäin, mikä toi oman lisänsä hoitajana toimimiseen, kun samalla piti olla hevosen yksityisyyden vartijana ja rauhanturvaajana.

Varenne himself was really kind for a stallion and in all respects an easy and comfortable horse. So my work as such was easy, although dedication and commitment it certainly demanded. Varenne was also a big celebrity in Italy, so the audience and journalists came to the stable almost every day, bringing their own contribution to my acting as a caretaker while at the same time being a guardian of the horse's privacy and a peacekeeper.

If Varenne could talk, how would he guide us who are interested in horse races?

Jos Varenne osaisi puhua, niin raviharrastajille pyyntö kuuluisi luultavasti että pitäkää hevosista hyvää huolta, jalat maassa ja pää kylmänä ja kertokaa kavereillekin kuinka hieno laji ravit ovat.

If Varenne could talk, then he would probably ask the people to take good care of horses, feet on the ground and head cold, and tell your friends what a fine sport races are.
